—The client aimed to enhance their basement’s accessibility and safety by installing a new walkout door. We meticulously excavated the area, poured concrete steps and retaining walls, and installed a durable exterior door, creating a direct and secure entry/exit point for the basement. This not only improves convenience but also fulfills critical egress requirements for a potential legal secondary suite.
As with all exterior structural projects, careful planning and adherence to safety standards were paramount. We ensured proper drainage, structural integrity of the concrete work, and secure installation of the door. This comprehensive approach delivers a functional, safe, and code-compliant basement walkout that significantly increases the property’s utility and value.

Challenge & Solution
The main challenge was creating a safe and compliant basement walkout from a previously inaccessible area. Our solution involved precise excavation to the correct depth, followed by the construction of robust concrete stairs and surrounding walls. We then installed a weather-sealed exterior door, complete with a secure railing system, to ensure easy and safe access while protecting the basement from the elements.

Our Process
The best way is to develop and follow a plan. Start with your goals in mind and then work backwards to develop the plan. What steps are required to get you to the goals? Make the plan as detailed as possible. Try to visualize and then plan for every possible setback. Commit the plan to paper and then keep it with you at all times. Review it regularly and ensure that every step takes you closer to your vision and goals. If the plan doesn’t support the vision then change it!

Result Driven
The completed basement walkout provides a secure, convenient, and code-compliant entry and exit point. This enhancement significantly increases the functionality and value of the basement space, making it safer and more versatile for various uses, including a potential legal suite.
